How it works

Daily energy = watts ÷ 1000 × hours per day. Yearly energy = daily × days used per year. Yearly cost = energy × rate; monthly = yearly ÷ 12. Using a humidistat so it only runs when needed avoids a lot of waste.

Are dehumidifiers expensive to run?

Usually moderate — most use less power than a heater. Cost depends mainly on how many hours a day it runs.

Compressor or desiccant?

Compressor models are more efficient in warm rooms; desiccant models work better in cold spaces but use more power.
