How it works
Energy per day (kWh) = watts ÷ 1000 × hours per day. Yearly energy = daily energy × days used per year. Cost = energy × your rate. The monthly figure is the yearly cost divided by 12.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find an appliance’s wattage?
Check the rating label (often on the back or base), the manual, or the power supply. If only amps and volts are listed, watts = amps × volts.
What uses the most electricity at home?
Anything that makes heat or cold: electric heaters, AC, ovens, kettles, tumble dryers and water heaters. Always-on devices like fridges add up because they run 24/7.
Does standby power matter?
Yes — devices left on standby can quietly add up. Enter a low wattage and 24 hours/day to estimate standby cost.
