How it works

Cost per load = energy per load × rate. Yearly cost = cost per load × loads per week × 52; monthly is the yearly figure ÷ 12. Washing at 30°C instead of 60°C can roughly halve the energy used.

Frequently asked questions

Does washing temperature matter much?

A lot — heating the water is most of the energy. Dropping from 60°C to 30°C can cut energy per load by half or more.

What about the spin and motor?

The motor uses relatively little energy compared with heating. A faster spin also leaves clothes drier, cutting tumble-dryer costs.

Is this the same as my water bill?

No — this is electricity only. If you pay for metered water, that is an additional, separate cost.
