How it works
Cost per hour = oven power × rate. Weekly cost = cost per hour × hours per week; yearly = weekly × 52; monthly = yearly ÷ 12. Because the oven cycles its heating element, real use is a bit below the rated power — this gives a sensible upper estimate.
Frequently asked questions
Is an oven cheaper than a microwave or air fryer?
For small portions, no — microwaves and air fryers heat less space and cook faster, so they usually cost less per meal than a full-size oven.
Does preheating waste much?
Preheating for long periods adds up. For many dishes you can preheat for less time, or skip it, to save energy.
Why use rated power if it cycles?
The element switches on and off to hold temperature, so average draw is lower. Using rated power gives a safe upper-bound estimate.
