How it works
Monthly earnings = exported kWh × export rate. Yearly = monthly × 12; the 10-year figure multiplies the yearly amount by ten. Export rates are usually well below the retail price, so using your own solar (or storing it in a battery) is normally worth more than exporting it.
Frequently asked questions
Is exporting worth more than using the power myself?
Usually not — export rates are typically lower than the retail price you pay. Self-consuming solar, or storing it in a battery, generally saves more than exporting earns.
What is a feed-in tariff?
A payment from your utility for electricity you send back to the grid. The rate and rules vary widely by country and provider.
How do I know my export amount?
Your inverter app or utility export meter shows exported kWh. If unsure, estimate it as the share of solar production you do not use yourself.
